Kassel, Allendorf (Eder), Nov 25, 2022 – Extraordinary challenges like the energy transition and climate protection require extensive sharing of experience on all levels. That’s why a large number of decision-makers from business, science and the policy sphere met in Kassel on November 24 and 25, 2022, at the Future Energy & Climate Forum, an event that attracted attention nationwide. Experts from Viessmann were also on hand to present innovative system solutions for a sustainable supply of heat and power.

Focus on district heating based on renewable energy

According to the plans of policymakers, district heating in particular is to become a key component of the energy transition in the construction sector, alongside the widespread use of heat pumps. That is why the Viessmann presentation focused in particular on solutions for supplying local and district heating based on renewable energy. This would include local heating networks supplied by a wood-fired heating plant. Another example showed a neighborhood solution based on an energy storage system that uses ice.

Presentation on the fundamental transformation of the heating market

The presentation entitled "The fundamental transformation of the heating market – energy solutions for the future" by Marco Ohme, Head of Viessmann Project Development, attracted particular attention. In it, he stated that the worsening situation in regard to reliable energy and gas supplies would pose serious problems for municipalities and utilities. After strategic policy moves were made to steer the economy “away from gas,” new development potential and business models must now be sought out. "This includes not only using heat pumps to supply heat on a decentralized basis," says Ohme, "but also centralized heat supply using local and district heating networks." These would become increasingly important in urban areas, along with innovative, network-connected neighborhood solutions. "As a solution provider with the self-imposed aspiration to operate sustainably, we offer comprehensive and future-proof system solutions for all applications. This is how we live up to our corporate mission statement that we create living spaces for generations to come", Ohme explained.
