Innovative systems for DHW generation and storage

Hot water heat pumps are one of the simplest ways to integrate renewable energy into a heating system. The new Vitocal 262-A now operate with natural refrigerant in a particularly climate-friendly way. The new Vitocell Modular is also available as a space-saving solution for storing hot water and heating water.

Vitocell Modular: Vitocal air/water heat pump with side-by-side combination of storage water heater and heating water buffer cylinder.

Allendorf (Eder),  Apr 14, 2023 – Second only to heating the home, DHW generation is the process that requires the most energy. Anyone looking to save energy here and, at the same time, do their bit to protect the environment is best advised to look at the new Vitocal 262-A hot water heat pump. Viessmann now also offers an innovative solution for the smart storage of hot water and heating water with Vitocell Modular, with the added bonus that the system saves space.

Vitocal 262-A: the hot water heat pump is setting new benchmarks in terms of efficiency and climate protection

Regardless of the current weather, time of day or season,  Vitocal 262-A  produces warm drinking water in a highly efficient process using free heat from the building’s immediate surroundings or from the outside air. This makes the hot water heat pump the ideal solution for modernizing an existing heating system and reducing its CO2  emissions. The new versions of the hot water heat pump now work with the natural refrigerant R290 and are compatible with the  Viessmann One Base  platform.

Climate-friendly and sustainable thanks to a natural refrigerant

The heat pump uses heat from the outside air or from the recirculating or extract air within the building. The new cooling circuit is setting benchmarks in terms of efficiency and climate protection. It is filled with the natural refrigerant R290, which has a very low GWP100 (global warming potential) of 0.02. This means that the heat pump achieves a high COP (coefficient of performance) of up to 4 (in air recirculation mode) and is particularly efficient and economical. The new refrigerant also makes the system particularly sustainable. As a result, the heat pump meets the requirements set out in the European F-gas Regulation, which apply beyond 2030.

Viessmann One Base for seamless energy solutions

The hot water heat pump can be particularly environmentally friendly when running on self-generated electricity from a photovoltaic system. It is also compatible with the innovative  Viessmann One Base  platform, which seamlessly connects products and systems from Viessmann’s Integrated Solution Offering with digital services. This enables convenient operation by users via their smartphones and the,  ViCare  app as well as straightforward commissioning, comprehensive system monitoring and remote maintenance by the commissioned specialist companies using the  ViGuide  service tool. This means that users are always in control of economical DHW generation.

Three versions of the hot water heat pump to meet all requirements

Three versions of Vitocal 262-A are available, allowing almost all requirements for convenient and energy-saving DHW generation to be met:

  • For mono-mode operation, the heat pump (type T2E-R290) is equipped with a factory-fitted dry immersion heater. This system features a 300-liter DHW cylinder.
  • Alternatively, there is a hybrid version with an integrated coiled tube heat exchanger (type T2H-R290). It is recommended for retrofitting and upgrading existing systems and can be retrofitted at any time to feature an immersion heater.
  • An external Vitocell cylinder (160 to 500 l capacity) is recommended for the wall-mounted version (type T2W-R290).

All three versions are offered in a timeless design with a Vitopearlwhite coating. This makes the hot water heat pump suitable for installation even in areas that are close to living spaces.

Vitocell Modular: unique modular storage system to meet all requirements in new and existing buildings alike

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a new build or an older house – the conditions on-site always throw up new challenges for the installation of  DHW cylinders  and heating water buffer cylinders. This is where a modular storage concept that can be adapted to suit almost all requirements and offers a particularly space-saving solution comes in extremely handy. With this in mind, and specifically for applications involving  heat pumps, Viessmann has developed new DHW cylinders and heating water buffer cylinders, which can be used alone or in combination with its innovative Vitocell Modular range.

Modular construction allows for maximum flexibility

One unique feature is the modular construction, allowing various requirements in new builds and modernization work to be met. What tends to be the small floor space in new builds, for example, can be used in the best possible way. Separate modules for heating and drinking water, which can be combined to form Vitocell Modular, offer maximum flexibility.

During modernization projects, transport is often a challenge due to twisty and narrow entrances. The separate storage modules with integrated handles make transport considerably easier.

DHW cylinder: three sizes for different hot water requirements.

The DHW cylinders are designed to be installed next to the heat generator. They are ideal in places where the hot water convenience offered by a heat pump with an integrated DHW cylinder (compact unit) is not sufficient, or if this is not an option due to difficulties associated with transport.

Compared to conventional DHW cylinders, the new Vitocell 100-V (type CVWC) systems have large heat exchanger surfaces to cope with the low flow temperatures with heat pumps. They are also particularly easy to transport, as all containers are fitted with stable handles. A non-wearing impressed current anode, in combination with the CeraProtect enamel coating, also ensures reliable corrosion protection in the long run. DHW cylinders with a volume of 200, 250 and 300 l are available.

Heating water buffer cylinders: two sizes to choose from

The Vitocell 100-E heating water buffer cylinders (type MSCA) have a capacity of 50 and 75 l and are suitable for heating and cooling thanks to their impermeable thermal insulation. Both products feature a layering system to meet the special heat pump operating conditions. The 75-l version can also be equipped with an immersion heater and has additional connections that allow another heat generator to be fitted.

Six combinations that take up less than half a square meter of floor space

A total of six combinations of DHW cylinders and heating water buffer cylinders as available as Vitocell Modular. They are stacked on top of each other, meaning that they take up less than 0.5 m² of floor space.

In order to make the system connection easy, the heating water buffer cylinder can be rotated 360 degrees.
