- What's important to me
It’s important to me to stay healthy so I can enjoy the biathlon for as long as possible.
I’m grateful for the opportunity and for Viessmann’s trust in me, and I’m looking forward to the coming years together.
Danilo becomes a member of the Hasselfelde ski club at just six years old. Though he’s a keen mountain biker early on, in winter he’s frequently out on his skis. Danilo has contact with the biathletes at Sonnenberg through his regular training and soon takes part in a trial training session. In 2011 he joins WSV Clausthal-Zellerfeld and moves into the adjoining ski academy. Shortly afterwards, he is a fixture at international competitions and at the Junior World Championships, where he performs well and begins collecting medals. In 2020 he becomes the junior world champion in Lenzerheide. A year later, he takes part in the European Championships in Duszniki-Zdroj and finishes in the top 15 in the sprint race.
First top-ten finishes at the Junior World Championships
Danilo competes at the IBU Junior World Championships for the first time in the 2017/18 season in Otepää, Estonia. He manages to finish in the top ten in all his races and narrowly misses the podium with a fourth-place finish in the individual competition.
IBU Cup debut
At the 2019 Junior World Championships in Brezno-Osrblie, Danilo ascends the winner’s podium twice – as the vice junior world champion in the relays and with a bronze medal in the individuals. Danilo celebrates his IBU Cup debut shortly thereafter, where he performs impressively with multiple top-ten finishes and a podium ranking in the Italian Martell Valley.
Junior world champion
After a few appearances and good results in the IBU Cup, Danilo secures two medals at the Junior World Championships in Lenzerheide. As the anchor in the relay, he confidently leads his team to a silver medal. He does one even better in the pursuit, where his strong run and flawless last shooting bout earn him a gold medal. He thus secures the title of junior world champion.
Flying start in the senior division
Danilo has some notable accomplishments in the 2020/21 season. He starts off at the IBU Cup at the Großer Arber, where, in addition to a top-ten finish, he secures the relay victory alongside Justus Strelow, Dominik Schmuck and Philipp Nawrath. He does well at the subsequent European Championships, finishing in the top 15 in the sprint. He also performs well at the Junior World Championships in Obertilliach and narrowly misses winning a medal. In the following season he mainly competes in the IBU Cup.
